"A classic tale of love and enchantment
comes alive, a dreamlike idyll spirited to the shores of Samui
island"
Muang Kulaypan Hotel is inspired by a tale of
Indonesian folklore introduced to Thailand during the Ayudhaya period and translated into
the Thai language many years later by King Rama II. As a matter of fact, the historic Thai
kingdom of Srivijaya was substantially influenced by the Javanese and enjoyed their
powerful sovereignty in Southern Thailand for centuries. The Javanese tale of Inao is the
legend of the romance of Prince Inao and Princess Budsaba set in the ancient city of Muang
Kulaypan where this exotic love story unfolded. The designer of the hotel, profoundly
inspired by the tale of Inao, has created a unique architectural style blending Zen with
Southern Siam and the life style reminiscent of its people. The terraces and walkways are
dotted with sculptures and aged bonsai trees alongside the custom furnishings designed by
the architect M.L. Archava Varavana. Muang Kulaypan boasts its exceptional elegance on
Chaweng Beach, enchanting guests day and night.
The architect has decided to use simple raw materials for the
construction and decoration of the Hotel. Many local craftworks
have been used in this process. This concept creates a blend of
simplicity together with the inherent practicality using materials
available on hand. All furnitures were made specifically on site during
the construction. The decor seeks to becalm the senses and plays down
the luxurian. This minimalist environment engenders a certain simplicity
to fullfil one’s life without aspiring to excess, a suitably honorable
way to behave in a Buddhist country.
Muang Kulaypan Hotel has is affiliated to the Global Hotel
consortium Design Hotels. The Hotel shall be featured in the Planet
Hotels & Resorts brand of the Group.
As you may know, design hotels is a consortium of over 200 design-led
hotels and resorts worldwide and provides a collection of
"signature" properties which are considered to best reflect
and define the character of a particular city or region. The Group
features the properties in several brands: design hotels, which
represents urban chic and its leisure offshoot design destinations;
Planet Hotels & Resort, the affordable style; and style
hotels, where
the classical merges with contemporary. Individuality and creativity are
crucial to the brand concept, aiming to reach a broader target group,
seeking an alternative to the mainstream.
Situated
on Koh Samui's north Chaweng beach, renowned as the most picturesque
in Thailand with its powder fine white sand and crystal clear waters,
Muang
Kulaypan Hotel harbors a 100 meters beach frontage, commanding a fabulous
view of the sea and offshore islands.
The
original shape of the land has been preserved as much as possible.
Ancient coconut trees (over 60 years old) were kept to maintain the
authenticity of the location. Many trees are incorporated within the
design of the Hotel.
The expansive and uncluttered garden is representative of the
simplicity of life one finds when one is open to it. It brings a
feeling of peacefulness and serenity that luxuriant vegetation may not
express so effectively. Placed throughout the Hotel’s garden and
walkways are numerous bonsai trees, a parallel to the Thai service
where each Guest is taken into personal consideration, with care.
